Later, she stops and stumbles then thumps to the forest floor. Disturbed leaves settle on her face.
What is wrong with here? She was a warrior princess! Sure, her body was different but that shouldn't matter. Anina, her old dead teacher, taught her concetration, taught her better then this. She was NOT a whimpering fool.
Cowardly dragon, she thought, sitting up. You had to meddle with my most basic emotions in order to get any coporation from me. But I'm on to you now. I am on to you!
Now, I'll find Lord Fred again and see what we can do about defeating the dragon.
She would hunt down the black tower in the desert and use her wolfish senses to find Lord Fred. Then they would deal with Minestus and Astra's changed form. There would have been more direct ways of finding Lord Fred and finding help, but most of the Great Kingdom looked down on were-creatures. Hopefully, hopefully, Lord Fred wouldn't do such a thing. He had accepted what he had thought was a human in a dog form...
One week passed. Three days trekking through the desert, following the skies and stars as she remembered. Three days to track Lord Fred down, who was heading for the castle of the Great Kingdom anyway.
(Astra didn't regret her roundabout ways. She had heard terrible rumors of actual were-creature hunts on the lands the king owned and she figured she was safer going the long way).
Several things happened in the first fifteen minutes after Astra the were-woman met Lord Fred behind a library. The two discovered they could communicate with no problem at all. Velus/the dragon had a spell that worked in subtle ways. It slowly accumalated so Lord Fred could talk to the 'dog', soon bypassing the yes and no barks. The spell had accumulated and had stuck, allowing Fred to communicate with any were-creature.
Secondly, Astra told of the more powerful, more possible threat of Minestus. Fred told Astra of how Vincent had fixed him up, then something had happened to the tower. Fred and four others, (he had only caught the name of the learned man, Arturo) had escaped but the tower had vanished completely. And the four others voluntarily entered a dimensional rift. It was very strange. The two soon decided to travel to the castle and inform the king of all that had gone on and the possible threats, Minestus, Vincent and everything else.
Then the library blew up.
