Nest of Vipers...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 15083

"All right," he said. "Here's what we'll do. First, we first must go see the abbot. Since Mike will probably also still be with him if not trying right now to get in to see him, that means we'll be able to 'form up' as it were to better defend ourselves from this nest of vipers in our midst. That and it will have the virtue of informing the abbot of the danger present here. With luck, we can talk and develop another plan besides....what Betty says what happened in a certain episode she saw."

Maybe something along the lines of putting an "anti" blue gem in that psionic network? the Timelord thinks to himself.

"Huh?" Sarah asks intelligently, "Doctor, your not making any sense. What's this about your friend and episodes?"

"I'll explain later," the Doctor says, heading off, then stopping at a thought. "Sarah, Jo Grant said she was coming up for a retreat.....Where is she?"

"I....she called forward and said that her pane was delayed for a day or so," Sarah sputtered, "So she would be late. Why do you ask? What has that to do with this?"

Betty sighs loudly.

"Would you want her here in harms way?" Betty asks bluntly, giving Sarah a meaningful look.

"Oh," Sarah blinks, suddenly feeling silly, "That's why you're asking."

"Yes," the Doctor says, nodding, "I don't 'want her in harms way' to paraphrase Betty."

As they head up to the abbots' place, Sarah falls back a little to speak quietly with Betty, who seems to somehow know a bit about what's going on around here beyond what's normal (if "normal" is a word useable in this situation). If nothing else, Betty seems to be not so busy to answer a few simple questions!

Frankly, that was sometimes one of the most annoying things about the Doctor in her book, as kind as the Time Lord was at other times.

"Sorry, but could you tell me just how you know about what's going on?" she begins, "Maybe you could be so kind and tell me what's going on?"

"As for the first," Betty says softly, looking around for Luton (one of the bad guys in who summoned the spider and perhaps might be able to detect the now close proximity of the cyrstal), "Remember something about him one time traveling sideways in time instead of back or forwards as usual. To a parallel world?"

"Well....he did say something in passing about it once," Sarah says, perplexed. "Something to do with that failed drilling project. Project Vulcan wasn't it? Why?"

"Well, suffice to say I happen to know for a fact that parallel worlds exist and leave it at that," Betty says, waving over at a large man she recognizes as being that groundskeeper who's a bit.....slow.

"Tommy," she calls over, "Could you come along please? We'll need your help here in a moment."

"Huh?" the man says, blinking.

He'd been keeping an eye on Yates who'd been trying to get in to see the abbot, who'd been tired and needed to turn in early for the night.

Yates had been blocked by the younger assistant, but he'd dobuled back to try to get into the abbots room.

Simple man though he was, he wasn't going to allow Yates (kind though je was to him) to disturb the abbot. Wouldn't be right, somehow.

Fact of the matter was, Tommy would have hit Yates if he forced the issue, or called that assistant (whatever seemed to be needed).

  1. Yates, meanwhile, quickly was opening the abbot's door (since Tommy had been delayed by Betty).....
