The Starship Enterprise-E lurches as the Outsider missiles hit. "Hull breach on Deck 5," says Worf as the missile took its toll. Worf looks at Picard questioningly. "Stay here, for now. We can't retreat yet. There's too much at stake." Captain Picard frowns. There had to be something he could do, but he couldn't think of anything. No one knew how to stop the Outsider ships. They had arrived a year ago, and no one knew what their motives were. They had no wish to speak diplomatically with the Federation, or even to conquer its worlds. They merely destroyed everything they encountered. Suddenly something appears at the edge of the viewscreen. He couldn't get a good look at it, because it was too far away. "Worf, what is that ship?" "It's a Federation ship, Constitution-class, from about a century ago." Suddenly, a shocked look comes over Worf's face. "It appears to be the original Enterprise, sir." There is an almost religious awe in his voice. "Hail them," says Picard. "What was that?" says Londo, startled. "It appears to be a Federation ship," says Spock, "but one far more advanced than from our time. And I cannot tell anything about the ship it is fighting." Oh no, you think. You had, for a brief time, hoped that that the wish you had made wouldn't have come to pass, but now all hope of that was gone. "It's a future Enterprise," you say. "It's the Enterprise- E, from about 100 years in your future." "They are hailing us," says Spock. "Should we answer them?" "I think we should," says Kirk. "Any advice, Stacy?" You answer
