A Fine Adventure . . .

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 1503

Lady Andrea rings the silver bell next to the bed. A series of chambermaid enters. Some dress her. Other neaten up the bed. Andrea turns to one. "Fetch me my chamberlain." With a simple "yes, milady," the maid scampers off. In a few minutes, and after Andrea has dressed, the chamberlain enters.

Now, the chamerlain was a thin, gnarled man, not from age, but from the a psychological disorder. He was a shrewed man, more out for his own profit than that of the kingdom. Andrea knew this, and expected to terminate the man's life one day to recover the lost fortune he had stolen. Today, though, she wanted something different.

"Chamberlain," said she, "prepare me my carriage and horses. Have for me packed as if I am to journey. Include for me enough gold that I shall not want."

"What do you plan, my dear Lady Andrea?" responded the man in a voice as gnarled as his hand. She hated when he called her 'my dear.' He was also the letch of the kingdom, and every decent woman knew it.

Finally, she found the nerve to reply pleasantly: "I wish merely to go upon some sort of adventure, to live life to the full and enjoy myself. See to it now that the preparations are made."

After a breakfast of berries and melon, Lady Andrea made her way down to the courtyard and the waiting carriage. A small group of her adoring well wishers had gathered to send her off. She waved to them and blew them a kiss before entering the carriage. Then her carriage driver, a man whom she trusted well, approached the window of the vehicle.

"My lady, think it not wise to call upon some of the Queen's Guard to accompany us? If even these well wishers know of our journey, so may some lesser kinds."

  1. Yes. Have them come.
  2. No, but we will press forward and adventure.
