The Doctor gave him an almost comic look of surprise. "My dear chap!" he said. "It's not exactly as if you've been inconspicuous about things, is it? Daleks roaming the streets, blowing up bookshops..."

"Very amusing, Doctor," Davros responded dryly. "But hardly convincing. Surely it cannot be a coincidence that you are here, in this city, at this moment. What brought you here. Tell me!" The last to words were uttered with something close to a shriek.

"I was looking for my companion," the Doctor replied mildly. "She has amnesia."

"Do not play the fool with me, Doctor!" screamed Davros, working himself up into a fine frenzy of anger.

  1. "If you won't respond to a polite questioning," he continued, "we will simply have to resort to other means of making you talk!"
  2. "Do not lie to me!" he continued. "I never ordered my Daleks to attack the city, so what really brought you here?"
  3. "All right," said the Doctor calmly. "I'll tell you. But first..."
