"Who goes there?" asked the burly guard who showed his presence in front
of them. Fred saw that Astra had dodged behind one of the pillars just in
time, pulling the boy with her, and was not visible to the guard. Fred
and Astra glanced at each other briefly, realizing that this was likely to
turn into a sticky situation. "An intruder?" prompted the guard, reaching
for his weapon. "N-no, no, not at all," Fred said. "Then what is your
business here?" the guard asked, while Fred racked his mind for something
to say. The boy continued to struggle in Astra's grip, but she still held
him easily, her hand still firmly gripped over his mouth. She knew that
if she allowed him to make a sound, he would try to wake the lions and
alert the guard as to their true nature. "Well?" the guard prompted Fred.
