Dayanara immediately wriggled in after him. Betty, glaring at the woman's
disappearing backside in a fashion that might perhaps be described by the
uncharitable as "jealous," followed her. The Master stood there for a moment after the other three had gone, seriously considering going for the other possible exit and taking off on his own. But as that would have involved some rather undignified tree-climbing, and as he was feeling a certain curiosity about this situation, in the end, he merely shrugged his shoulders and crawled after them into the tree. Soon the hollow trunk had become a wide tunnel, large enough for them to stand upright. Roots and branches hung from the walls, and fungus on the floor gave off an eerie pale blue glow. Soon the tunnel ended, and the four emerged, blinking into the sunlight. On the right was a road sign saying "Now leaving Kansas." "I suppose that means we're not in Kansas anymore!" said the Doctor cheerfully. "How droll," replied the Master in an unamused voice. Betty merely shook her head at the thought of the Master being familiar wiht The Wizard of Oz and said nothing. Dayanara simply stood there looking around them. A paved road began just ahead of them, and stretched off into the indefinite distance. A gravel path led off to the right, and a dirt road with deeply engraved wagon ruts went off to the left. "Well, Dayanara," said the Doctor. "Which way to this 'safer ground' of yours?"
