"What do you mean, 'over-literally'?" Ecstasy asked. "Look, I'll admit I'm not half the wizard my old friend Belboz here is," Uxton said frankly, "But I've always considered myself something of a student of the prophecies. And when it says 'The Warrior-Lass shall join the fight', I don't believe it means she will literally wade out into the battlefield, tossing Amazons over her shoulders like so much fresh bread!" "Then - then what does it mean?" Joan asked. "According my interpretation of the old tongue," Uxton replied, "You'll succeed by joining the battle at one spot only - the main camp of the Amazons." "Why there?" "Because just as we now have you on out side, they will have someone just as powerful fighting for them." The others looked startled by Uxton's pronouncement, but Belboz nodded. "Of course. The prophecy states, "The Warrior-Lass will join the fight - and only one shall match her might'!" "So the prophecy says I have to go to the Amazons' camp and beat her there?" Joan asked. Uxton looked around uneasily. "Well - it doesn't really say you have to meet her right there. In - in fact, it doesn't really say you'll actually beat her." "What?!?" "I'm sorry," Uxton said with a weak smile. "The prophecy never actually directly addresses the issue." Joan closed her eyes and sighed. "I'm sick of these open-ended prophecies!" she muttered. "So what will you do, child?" the Queen asked.
