Synizn feels like dancing when the light in Malachi's eyes comes back. He then goes and basically lies he head off how he knows this dragonness. He gives off a story that is remarkably similar to the story that Carradene knows as his own! Well, it could just be true. It was no less unbelievable than his own. And Malachi had the . . . . oddest connections.
The sticking point with the Pack is this when she asks to ally herself with the Pack.
"A dragon join with US?!" Taylor, the old leader of the Fox clan, nearly shouts. "Why would we be insane enough to do that? How can we trust her?"
"Because vengence is the only thing I have LEFT." Malachi says, biting off each word. "I am practically the last of my kind. There is no future for me. You want to stomp Minestus, and so do I! What more do you need to KNOW?!"
It finally boils down to this. The main fear of the Pack is that Malachi, as a dragonness is so POWERFUL in her dragon form! Even in this human form, she has assets that most humans don't have (like immunity to the Phage). What would prevent her, at some future date, from changing back and taking vengence on the Pack for some minor incident?
Fred smiles with a touch of humor to it. What, indeed. Having this strange dragon . . . who had provened to be so helpful in the past . . . . would be a real asset! Yet, the fears of the Pack were valid . . . .
"Carraden," Lord Fred calls over to the old wolf in the slightly condescending voice that he used with the wolf in public. "The dragonness is in human form. Does this mean that she is subject to some special . . . . diseases?"
"Like lycanthropy?" Carradene says in a syrupy voice, playing the role of a person sucking up to the powers that be to a tee. "Why, YES, of course it would effect her. That should take care of the question most nicely!"
The general buzz of the Pack seems to be surprised, and mostly positive. Yes, that WOULD settle it nicely take care of that problem. She'd be locked into one form . . . . .
"So, what says you, dragonness?" Fred asks, pitching his voice to the crowd. "If you wish to aid the Pack in this quest to capture, and eventually bring the monster to justice, you must become one of the Pack. Your magic, along with the other magic users, can really aid against the wyrm . . . ." And the other magic users can easily neutralize you if you decide to run wild as a dragon stuck in wereform . . . . .The Pack seems to hear that part, for the chatter is positive.
"I have no . . . . " Malachi begins, swallows, and begins again. "With the death of so many of dragonkind, I might as well . . . . .There's nothing left for me, otherwise."
Malachi is given a choice of what type of werecreature she will become, and a few people are surprised when she chooses to be a raccoon. The bite is administered, and soon the newest member of the pack, a female were-raccoon stands before the Pack.
People get down to the business, after supplies are dug out to feed the hungry (Malachi had stocked up for just about any kind of emergency for a few weeks . . . . which translates into a bit of time for the Pack).
