"We should reach the southern edge of the Calamari within the week,"

knew this area better than the others - told them as they continued to
make their
way steadily northwards. "If it wasn't that it would involve
passing through the heart of the territory of the Court of Fools, I'd
suggest striking
westwards from here in order to reach the coast, for that would allow us to
avoid the heart of the desert. Though it would be considerably longer, it
would also
be much easier. I don't think we dare risk it, though.
"To complete the local geography, not far to the east of here is the rumoured site of the sage Myrddin's tower. I've never met anyone who has actually seen it, though, so it may be a myth. We are coming to an area where there are a few villages; they are too poor to attract much attention from the Court." A little later they came to one of the villages that Aethir had spoken of. Astra asked those people that she encountered on the street whether any of them had seen anything unusual in the last couple of weeks, hoping - or fearing - to hear something about Andrea. She wasn't sure whether or not she should be relieved when none of them could recall anything out of the ordinary. (In fact Andrea had not made it this far north before encountering Jarlath, after which she and Jarlath had not come this way but had headed westward to the coast. [9475]) It was too early in the day to make the village the end of their day's journey, though all would have welcomed the comparative comfort of beds in even such a basic inn as the village's.
