Two Fine Statues

Prince Karo was taken aback at finding two identical fine marble statues
in his antechamber. Half an hour ago, when he had last passed through the
room, they
had not been there. The only way they could have arrived there without his
having
been aware of it was magically, so he called in the court magician to
examine them.
"Beautiful workmanship, Your Highness," the magician said. "They seem perfect in every detail." "Belbox was supposed to be finding me a bride of noble birth," the prince said. "Is it possible that these statues are to be transformed into flesh, to be candidates for my hand? But why send two, apparently identical?" "Belboz would certainly be capable of turning girls into statues, transporting them here, and then turning them back to flesh again. But he would need to be here to restore them. He could have transported himself here as well, though that is a difficult spell, but does not seem to have done so." "Can you tell whether they were previously flesh and blood and, if so, can you turn them back again?"
