Eleanor pondered. Then, she smiled. "You're right. God only knows that I've tried enough crazy, risky ideas in my time. I can only hope this works. By the way, I'd very much like to meet the person in question. Who is it?"

"Alright, Fred, you can come out from behind the couch now," Melissa said. Fred came out. "Fred, this is Eleanor, the wizard I'm apprenticed to. Eleanor, this is the legendary hero, Lord Frederigo D'Honaire."

Fred was quite startled, hearing himself referred to as a legendary hero. But he was also quite proud. "Hello, Eleanor," Fred said. Fred really had no idea what to make of Eleanor. She seemed only a year or so older than Melissa, but what had been said indicated that she was much older. Well, he'd have to get used to strange things for this mission.

"One more thing," said Eleanor. "After this task is completed, you should return him to his own time and remove his memories of this one. It would create a great risk of altering history if he was allowed to retain them."

"Is there any way to avoid this?" asked Fred. "I don't want to have my mind mucked about with."

"I can understand," said Eleanor, "but I think you can understand the necessity of this. No, I'm sorry, there is no way to avoid it."
