Brill

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 13426

The grinding noise and the materializing TARDIS (in the middle of Rachel's living room), is almost small change to the shock of the reality of.....real elves (and magic).....

What does surprise some, however, is just who comes stumbling out!

"Ed?" Rachel gasps, surprised.

"Brill?" Deans asks, perplexed.

Both look at each other, and at least a dawning comprehension of just how Brill and Lyle are connected is occurring in one mind.

Brill (a.k.a. Edward Lyle) meanwhile, yelps and curses anew as when he accidently stumbles into a chair that he'd run into while trying to put some distance between himself and the three odd people who'd approached him in his secret place of work! His broken arm screams to him in pain!

"AHH! You son of a bitch!" he shouts in pain, looking back at the people who are exiting the blue box.

The tall woman dressed as a forester (Brill could have sworn she looked like Sigourney Weaver) had begun to speak in a reassuring manner, but Brill had been so shocked (and frightened) that anyone could have found him here.....

He'd turned to run for his life, only to realize that the only way out was the very entrance to the "Jar" (his term for his office) that the three strangers were standing in!

He'd managed to land a few glancing blows (which accounted for why Sigin had a black eye and the Doctor had a bit of a limp), before the surprised trio had subdued him.

In the course of the tussle, his left arm broke....

The woman had then said something that sounded arcane to him.....and Brill was horrified to find himself blacking out! Fighting off the effects as best he could (using some techniques he'd learned from one of his more eccentric compatriots), he found he could....barely.....hold himself awake.

Faking being asleep, he found himself being lifts gently....and carried into somewhere else.

Eyes still closed, he'd heard a chillingly familiar grinding sound. It was the same sound he'd heard earlier in another building nearby his own place!! Soon the grinding stopped and he heard a sound what he'd figured (correctly) was a door opening.

Inquirer was about to go over to Brill to heal him after making sure the others injured by the frenzied Brill could look after their own hurts, when the man had jumped up and ran out the door.

She then hear a clatter and Brill cursing as she and the others rushed out to catch up with Brill.

Brill, after cursing them, then blinks in realization as he sees....he's in Rachel's apartment!

"What the fuck?!" he gasps, looking utterly bewildered.

With Rachel's aid, the adventurers are able to calm Brill enough to where he'll listen and stand still long enough for Inquirer to heal his arm (causing Brill to look at her...then at his arm....in amazement).

Once Rachel calmed him and showed that the others could be trusted (and he is given something to eat--he's hypoglycemic--so he's not so cranky).

He and Dean listen raptly as the Doctor winds down with the explanation of current events. Inside the TARDIS after the others make VERY sure to add some very special magical compulsions to Brill and his gang of thugs.

They awake an hour later after the TARDIS had departed, with massive headaches and finding no signs of their intended target.....

"Hicks, that bootlicker, isn't going to like this," Pratt mutters truthfully to himself, and then blinks as he realized he'd revealed personal opinions of a highly placed (if only by virtue of being a lapdog) part of the Organization within the Agency.

He then puts it down as just being still scrambled by....whatever had happened right before the lights going out.

After a few more slips he and the others voice, they turn horrified eyes to each other when it dawns on them.....

"We can't lie!" Pratt whispers, horrified.

They then agree quickly, that they'd better run.....because if somebody asks them the wrong question, they'd blurt out the answer that would earn them an Excedrin.....9mm!

Back in the TARDIS.....

Ragan, Betty, and Brill (all cat lovers) are holding their cats in their laps, stroking them, as they listen to the Doctor "tell it like it is."

"....so you see, if matters were left to stand as they were....Rachel would be dead." the Doctor says, and then cuts in hurriedly to block off the triad Brill would give Dean about coming near Rachel again....after Brill had warned him not to do such a thing.

"These are desperate....ruthless men, Brill," the Time Lord says reasonably, "The one called Reynolds ordered her murder just to make it easier for them to find Robert and discredit him if he went public against them. I believe that it's safe to say that it wasn't just the fact that Dean had been able to evade capture that precipitated this murder attempt. See, another group tried to do the same on another set of people close to Dean. I believe that they've grown so desperate that they'd have attempted these terrible crimes whether or not Dean would have contacted you or not.....just to put more pressure on him to turn over the video."

"Oh, and what makes you think....." Brill begins, and blinks when the last part of what the Doctor just said dawns on him.

Dean feels the blood drain out of his face when he realizes what that means.

"What do you mean?" Rachel, shaken ,whispers.

"We also stopped some goons from killing Carla and kidnaping Eric," Inquirer is quick to put in, "We whisked them away from harms way and plunked them down in a remote motel, safe."

Safe, and with harsh instructions to stay put until they returned with Dean in a few minutes......

"And we are taking you right there right now," the Doctor says, making adjustments to the control column.

You know, I could get used to a TARDIS that actually lands exactly where I set it to go! the Time Lord thinks, while fondly patting the control column as it finally stops grinding.

After the door opens and Dean and the others rush out into the room that will soon be housing one mystery woman named Stacy in the near future, Robert Dean, wife and child come together in what is almost a picture perfect moment of family bonding.

Laughing and crying, the others leave the family to themselves.

Brill, having seen it and heard what the deal was, looks over at the Deans with an unreadable expression.

He then walks over to the Doctor's group.

"What do you need me to do?" he finally says, a fire in his eye, "I'm in."

"We need to actually see what is on this toy," Inquirer sighs, "Then, and only then, can we shut down Reynolds good and proper."

In all of Inquirer's shopping, the necessary equipment had been purchased, but was still in boxes right now.......

So, after Brill gets transported back to "the Jar", the adventurers are treated to an eerily familiar scene that was seen in a movie......

"But this is very real," Betty whispers, shivering.

Later......

  1. Later, a very nervous Thomas Reynolds is in a conference with the rest of the group as Shaffer, Director of the NSA, is speaking softly....
