Sir Ted And The Treasury Key

If they key wasn't returned inside of a month, the castle would default on dozens of current loans, payments to hundreds of people would not happen and the economy would go into a deadly tailspin.

Sure, money was currently coming in but it just wasn't enough. It would take six months for everything to equalize money-wise.

Sir Ted silently cursed the man who decided that only three men, the king, the Astrologer and the Bookkeeper, could be the ones to enter the vault. Why not just post a hundred gaurds instead of who-knows-how-many magical spells? It was madness.

But Sir Ted and his two companions would get the key back from the maurauding wolfmen. Hopefully he could then persuade King Emry to change the magic surrounding the treasury vault.

(And if worse came to worse, maybe Sir Fred would stumble upon the dragon's hoarde way down south. Dragon's -are- supposed to have a hoarde).

Sir Ted was confident in his group. He had Lady Andrea on his left. She was only twenty, shockingly un-betrothed, but unbeatable with her archery. Some castle wags whispered that there was magic involved but Ted didn't care. She could knock acorns out of a tree at fifty paces and that was good enough for him.

On his right was Ci, one of the few centaurs that wasn't a hermit. Ci was pretty popular himself. A year ago he alone had stopped a takeover of the prison island Ticonderoga, also saving the King's daughter Electra, two nuns and thirteen babies. Scars from the final climatic battle with the prisoner's leader crisscrossed his flanks like a macarbe game of tic- tac-toe.

Ted pulled his horse to a stop. He smelled something wrong...he looked around. The forest waved calmly in the evening breeze but...nothing chirped. All the birds were silent. What was it he smelled?
