Contradictory Indications

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 13057

"Ghosts?" Astra asked. "Would ghost horses raise a cloud of dust? Could we somehow have been transported into the past when we were banished to the Calamari? Could this be Vincent's doing? Or are we somehow viewing a scene from over a hundred years ago?"

The riders were almost upon them now. What was most unnerving was that their approach was totally silent. Though the desert sand might have muffled the hoofbeats, there was no jangle of harness nor sounds of horses neighing or snorting. Two of the horses appeared to be riderless, though they kept in perfect step with the others.

Fred and Astra remained concealed behind the dune, hoping that the strange troop - whatever they were - would ride on by. But as if guided by some sixth sense, as they passed the end of the dune, they wheeled. They drew to a halt with the leading horse only a few yards from Fred and Astra, who had turned to face them.

  1. "Come," the rider's chief said in sepuchral tones, indicating that they should mount the two riderless horses.
