Lord Fred Meets the Friendly Dragon

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 13034

At first Lord Fred is surprised that he was caught off guard. He made a mental note to himself not to let that happen again. He looks more closely at the friendly face that had startled him and realizes that it belongs to a small brownish dragon. Now Lord Fred had never actually seen a real dragon, despite the rumors about his heroism, and Lord Fred is suprised that the dragon is able to speak. He also is confused about why the dragon isn't trying to eat him since that's what all the dragons he had heard about did, and he was curious to know how the dragon knew that he was a hero. He relaxed from his thoughts for a moment and replied to the dragon that indeed he was the hero. Lord Fred liked to take every opportunity to better his reputation, even to dragons. The dragon seemed pleased. The dragon invited Lord Fred to have a seat with him in the other room by the fire. As Lord Fred was wet and getting chilly, and curious about this new creature, he accepted the offer. The room is small and cozy, with a large fireplace at one end. As they sit in front of the fire and begin to talk, Lord Fred realizes that the dragon has been misinformed. The dragon, as told by a prisoner of the underground world named Artemis, believes that Lord Fred has been sent to help the dragon reclaim the magic that it has lost. This magic, which had always been used for good, had been stolen by an evil sorcerer. The nowmagicless dragon is grateful for Lord Fred's help and offers Lord Fred some fresh cool water and some nuts from a small sack in a nearby cabinet. They appear to be all the dragon has to eat, which helped in Fred's mind to explain the wrinkled, wasting appearance of this dragon. Now Lord Fred had never heard of magical dragons but he was hungry and so accepted the food offering. As the dragon peered eagerly at him, Lord Fred began to question his profession. How could he possibly slay such a kind, personable, magic dragon? He began to think that maybe he could help the dragon after all. He also wondered who this Artemis person was and how she knew he was coming. The dragon interrupted Lord Fred in mid thought. "will you help me?" he asked? For a moment Lord Fred is speechless.

  1. Lord Fred is overcome with empathy at the plight of this dragon and vows to help the dragon reclaim his magic.
  2. Lord Fred is conflicted. Isn't a dragon slayer supposed to slay dragons instead of helping them in their pursuit of power?
  3. Lord Fred jumps up and plans at once to hunt down the evil sorcerer.
  4. Lord Fred, missing the company of ladies for some time, vows ot help the dragon on the condition that he be introduced to Artemis.
  5. Lord Fred explains to the dragon that he isn't in the profession of combatting evil sorcerers but that he will spend the night by the fireplace and think over the idea.
  6. Lord Fred realizes it is better to set the dragon straight right away about his true profession and then leave promptly before he is tempted to slay this kind creature.
  7. Lord Fred pulls out his sword and slays the kind creature. After all, isn't that what dragon slayers do?
