Fred the Hostage

'Atleast I'm dry and have all the food I can eat,' Fred thought. They had taken his sword and chained him to Capt.Roberts' tent but they hadn't treated him too roughly. He would be sleeping on the open beach, but the southern nights were warm and the sand was soft. Some of the pirates growled when they got near him but he knew that the Captain would keep him safe. A dead hostage was no better than fish bait.

One-Eyed Jack walked up to him and sat down with a steaming bowl of meat stew. Fred nodded and then took the opportunity to ask Jack something that had puzzled him since he got there. "Jack, were you just walking along the hills of the beach when you found me, or had you come to spy me out?" Jack slurped his wooden spoon clean and wiped his mouth with his sleeve. "Last night, we all saw the Dragon's fire in the sky and knew that the Dragon be paying visit to the cove. It ne'er means well, but sometimes the beast does leave a bit o' gold behind. Leftovers from the poor wretches that crossed its path. Anyway, me as bein' the third mate, they sent me out to see what eyes can see. And all I saw was you. And that pile of bones, o'course" Fred shook his head, poor Sir Toby. Yet another reason to hunt the dragon down and kill it. But first he needed to escape this band of pirate cutthroats.
