To Fred's astonishment, Jarlath suddenly burst out laughing. "Don't make so much noise," Fred rebuked him. "We don't know what's down here and we don't want to draw attention to ourselves if we can help it. Anyway, what's so funny?"

"It just struck me that we're about to search for an invisible woman in pitch darkness. How ridiculous is that?"

"Logically, it's no worse than searching for an invisible woman in broad daylight. I suppose I could light my torch so we can see what we are doing. However that would alert anything that might be down here to our presence."

"I think..." Jarlath began. But then he broke off because...
