Gratuitous Violence

Fred was about to ask Bugsy to explain why he believed this door to be a good one for them to use, which no doubt would have resulted in a fascinating and very detailed account of Bugsy's experiences as an inmate in the facility, chances he'd had to look about whilst being moved from cell to cell or taken outside for exercise, as well as conversations with careless guards who may have mentioned various rooms and hallways which Bugsy had realized could be used as possible escape routes should the opportunity arise, but such an account would have been very long and used up valuable escape time. There was no way of knowing how long it would be before they were missed, and quickness was a virtue.

Leaving all that unsaid, Fred tried the door, which was open. As the three convicts burst into the room, two very surprised policemen got up from their PC's and reached for their guns. However, Fred's combat training and Astra's warrior instincts kicked in faster than their trigger figures. Fred's fist caught one officer full in the beer belly before he could reach his weapon, keeling him over for a perfect uppercut to the jaw, and Astra took care of the other by kicking the gun from his hand with her right foot and driving her left foot into his face a split second later with a breathtaking (in more ways than one) roundhouse. Bugsy grabbed the two dazed officers by their shirt collars and brought their heads together much harder than would be advisable by any certified medical authority. The two men slumped to the floor in an unconscious heap.

"Wow, where'd you guys learn to do that?" asked Bugsy in admiration.

"Let's just hope we don't run into any more of them," replied Fred, as he moved to the door on the far side of the room.
