"Er, wait..." said Fred. His mind raced. He couldn't let this incredible
woman walk out of his miserable life as quickly as she had walked
in. "I'd really like to come with you...uh, I'll just leave him here, and
he'll be fine, really! He's already getting better, and someone's sure to
come by in a jiff, patch him up, you know..." he trailed off lamely.
The woman shook her head. "I thought you were a man of more character. How you could be willing to leave a dying boy simply to satisfy your own desires? If this boy cannot trust you to care for him, how can I trust you to care for me or my father? Goodbye."
