"Look, what is going on here?" Fred asked. "First you claim to be a
princess of
Aqualaria, but then you say that you're my half-sister?" "Yes," Astra
replied.
"Strange as it might seem, Lord Fred, both statements are true. Some
twenty-two years ago,
the King of Allaria paid a state visit to my country. Your father was one
of his retinue
on that trip. My mother, the monarch of Aqualaria, took rather a fancy to
your father,
and they had a brief but passionate affair. All the courtiers pretended
that nothing was
happening, of course. Then, nine months later, long after the state visit
was over,
I came along.
"No-one in Allaria has ever been told of this, not even my - and your - father, and of course the common people in my own country are also in ignorance of who my true father is. Since inheritance to the throne passes down through the female line, the fact that the identity of my father is not public knowledge is not a major problem."
