Exotica quacked what Fred assumed was her thanks. He would have to arrange
to
use the same code with her that he had developed with Velus, he thought.
[#9] He was pleasantly
surprised that his sword had been able to cut through the chains,
especially
after his failure to cut through the Aqualarian princess's apparently
similar ones. That a green flash
had been produced and the chains had vanished
altogether was worrying, though. It indicated that the chains had been
enchanted
in some way. That meant that the dragon would probably be aware that they
had been
destroyed.
Fred decided that the King would want him to give priority to rescuing his daughter even over trying to slay the dragon or freeing the captured townspeople. When he had sent Fred on his quest, he could not have known that Exotica had been taken prisoner. If Fred could only get her to safety, then with any luck a skilled mage should be able to undo her quacking curse. So Fred, Exotica and Velus headed back towards the entrance to the caverns, Fred meanwhile teaching Exotica his coded communication system.
