The rest of the world pulsed. Pink bands of energy shot everywhere,
seemingly at random. Suddenly everything was normal sized again. Fred was
standing halfway up the mountain. An array of two-story tall boulders blocked his view of the valley below. To the right was a field of purple posies. To the left was a slope of pebbles and dirt. This was surrounded on three sides by a row of high, thick evergreens. Behind Fred was another slope. Twenty feet up was the beginning of the snow line. Past that everything went real steep real quick. A goat stared at him from a hundred feet up. It had a black stripe running down one side. The soft, barely moving wind brought the metallic tang of the snow washing over him. Fred was missing most of his equipment. All he had was his sword, one dagger, a knapsack and a bit of rope. No biggie. He's survived for weeks with much less then that. Fred knew he shouldn't stay in one spot.
