Fred couldn't believe what had happened. He thought only of returning to
normal size. He began to run towards the King's castle, but realized that
was not the best course of action. Each time he took a step the earth
shook, the trees trembled, and the animals scurried. He also noticed that
other Allarians had taken notice of him, had begun to run or scream or
take to arms.
this is not good thought Fred. Before long a crowd of knights, archers and assorted practitioners of the pike, club, hammer, knife, and dart were arraigned before him. Fred had been standing relatively still so as not to harm his own countryfolk, but now it wwas they who wished to harm him! "Stop!" yelled Fred. Seeing as how large he was, this yell had the result of causing great pain within the eardrums of all around, except for Bob the applecart guy who was deaf. Once recovered the soldiers all yelled too: "Death to the Giant! Death to the Giant!" Then a woman in grey robes stood on one of Bob's apple crates. Her long red hair glistened in the sunlight, her thin arms tapered into delicate fingers; she was one of the King's wizards. "Stop," said Fred almost in a whisper (which was still loud to everyone else). "I am no Giant...I am Lord Fred, son of Duke Dred, loyal servant to King Emery." The crowd gasped. They oooh'd and aaaaah'd. A few spit between their toes and prayed to their squid-god. Then the royal witch began to speak: "How can you be Fred? Fred is not Giant!" "I have been cursed...by the Dragon." "Ah, that explains things," said the wizard. "I shall try to reverse this evil curse."
