Author Stumped by Sudden Appearance of Purple Blob of Slime

Fred instantly knows it to be such, and not a blob of purple slime, for in some inexplicable way it is apparent that the purpleness of the blob of slime is a quality of its blobness, and not its slimeness. If it had remained a blob, but had lost the quality of slime, the purpleness would have remained. If however it had remained slimy but had no longer been a blob, it would no longer have been purple.

Anyhoo, there is this purple blob of slime. Fred, meantime, has a flaming marshmallow between each pair of toes, while a little green man is watching the unfolding scenario, chuckling away to himself. Apart from the purple blob of slime the situation has changed little over the last few seconds.
