Fred wandered rather aimlessly through the caves for a couple of hours, trying to find the way out. For with no armour and a sword so small as to be all but useless, he would clearly need to re-equip before he could take on the dragon with any hope of success. (Though after his recent experiences, he thought that the dragon might not actually be the greatest danger that lurked in these caverns.) He no longer had his map, and anyway it had proved almost useless, so all he could do was choose passages that seemed to lead upwards, and hope that he would eventually reach the surface.
Eventually he heard approaching footsteps coming from around a bend in the tunnel he was in, and readied his sword - really no more than a dagger, given its size. He was startled when the figure that came into view was that of a young woman dressed in warrior's garb. She was unusually tall for a female, had red hair, and was beautiful but at the same time athletically built. From the woman's point of view, she saw a man dressed only in a loincloth, and leapt to an obvious - but wrong - conclusion. "Hello," she said. "I didn't know that a religious hermit lived in these caves. Which god do you worship?" "I am no hermit, my lady. I am Lord Fred, an Allarian knight, here on a quest to slay the dragon that has been terrorising our land." "Pleased to meet you, Lord Fred. I am Astra of Aqualaria, here for the same reason as you. I have to say that you seem woefully under-equipped, though." "I entered the caves properly equipped, but I have run into strange magicks, which caused me to lose my amour and reduced my sword to this pitiful thing. I now feel that the magic here may pose more of a threat than even the dragon, though at least - unlike the dragon - the magic seems to remain confined within the caves... So you must be the fabled warrior princess. We in Allaria have heard many tales about your feats, Princess Astra." "Yes, I am she, though I suspect that much of what you heard was exaggerated. But please just call me 'Astra', Lord Fred. This isn't the court and is no place to stand on ceremony." "Thank you, Astra. And please just call me 'Fred'... I was trying to leave so that I could re-equip myself before returning to my quest, but these caves are a labyrinth and I fear that I have been wandering in circles."
