Josh swerved his mouse and chose to contact the Doctor. The screen went
black and then a small gif of the Doctor appeared at the top right-hand
corner of Josh’s screen. The Doctor’s mouth was moving but there was no
audio, instead, there was a dialogue box at the bottom of the screen:
Yes, Tuvok? it said.
There was a flashing moniker below that. Josh began to type in a message, he wrote: what is the status of the disease? The Doctor.gif answered: The mutations are progressing as I told you they would. There has been no change, and we are no closer to an answer. Josh thought about the whole scenario. It seemed familiar to him, something he’d seen before. Was it an old episode? He couldn’t quite put his finger on it. Frank, meanwhile, was eating Fritos in the kitchen. Josh typed: What do we know about the cause? The Doctor moved its mouth and Josh saw these words appear: Ensign Fred Allar came to sickbay two days ago with an infection of influenza. Upon routine treatment and the beginning of a chemical therapy he began to suffer strong headaches. Therapy was halted but within eight hours a series of crewmen came down with similar pains. This was followed by chemical, neural and physiological changes within each person. ~~ok, ok~~ thought Josh. ~~maybe there’ll be a clue in the biohistory of this crewman~~ Josh typed: What do we know about the Ensign? Ensign Fred Allar is 28 years old. He is human and comes from the system Astra Centauri. His parents are minor royalty within that society and have ties to the Federation Representative there. Fred has hobbies which include lawn bowling, horseback riding and laser duels. He has never been hospitalized for any major ailment and has served well upon the U.S.S. Voyager. I could go on, Sir, but I highly doubt we will find any major breakthrough here.
