Belboz, Fred, and Menifee gathered their provisions, prepared their minds, and discussed their plan of action in detail, all while running at full speed towards the castle. They knew that the trial ahead would be fraught with danger, and they were running out of time. They reached a large wooden port on the south side of the mighty castle, and without hesitation Menifee at full speed body-slammed through the wood with massive force, utterly decimating the door with huge splinters flying everywhere. Suddenly, the strange voice entered their minds yet again. "You have done well," it said. "But you cannot make it in time now. Therefore, you are offered an additional 15 minutes of time to blast into the uppermost chamber of the Dark Castle. This will come at a cost, which will be disclosed in a later trial. Do you accept?" The trio felt dread at this proposition, but reluctantly, one by one each gave his consent to these terms. The Voice withdrew as if in confirmation and left them alone in the stillness yet again. The trio silently looked at each other. "Blast," Belboz uttered. As they entered the castle, the air grew colder and the darkness deepened around them. They heard strange noises and saw shadows moving in the corners of their eyes. Fred tightened his grip on his sword, and Menifee growled menacingly. Belboz attempted to conjure a protective shield around them, but the shield faltered and failed almost immediately. "Out of mana," Belboz quickly explained. "I can only provide light for now." Suddenly, they heard a loud growl, and Menifee let out a ferocious roar in response. Out of the darkness rushed a massive Blood Welik, a red beast with sharp claws and teeth, its eyes glowing green in the darkness. Fred charged forward, his sword flashing in the dim light, while Menifee engaged the beast in close combat. As Troll and Welik traded massive blows, Belboz hurled a small explosive device at the Welik's back left leg, causing it to stumble and fall to the ground with a crash. Menifee immediately closed the distance and, brandishing his great club, smashed the beast's head with all his might. The blow was so loud that it knocked both Fred and Belboz to the ground, and broke Menifee's fingers. A stillness settled on the area, their breathing loud and heavy in the darkness. Belboz crawled up to Menifee and cast a quick charm, repairing his broken fingers and setting them in place. Menifee grunted his thanks, and the companions, covered in sweat and blood, now without light thanks to Belboz's mana issues, continued on, their hearts racing and their senses on high alert. As they encountered more and more monsters, their supplies dwindled and their energy waned. They pressed on, fueled by their determination and the hope that they were getting closer to their goal. But the castle was a maze of corridors and chambers, revolving and shifting as they went along. As they listened, they heard stone grinding against stone and passages closing off, and they soon realized that they were lost. Panic set in as they realized that time was running out, and they had only a few minutes left to complete their mission. Belboz frantically searched for a way out, casting failed spell after failed spell in a desperate attempt to find a path to the uppermost chamber. But the walls continued to shift and the corridors twisted and turned, leading them in circles. With only seconds left, they found themselves trapped in a dead end. The walls felt like they were closing in on them, and they could feel their life force slowly slipping away. In a final burst of energy, they let out a battle cry and charged forward, determined to get to that damned chamber at all costs. At the last possible second, the trio found another pedestal titled "Time Stop," and without even thinking, slammed their stones into the depressions etched into the top of the pedestal. Suddenly, energy and life returned to their limbs, and the trio stood there, perplexed. "What happened?" asked Fred aloud, though already guessing at the answer. "Well," said Belboz, "it seems we have stopped time throughout the castle. My sprites detect no movement anywhere." "Does this mean we can explore at our leisure?" Menifee grunted. "Seemingly so," replied Belboz, "though I don't dare risk taking the stones out of their spots now. We'll have to leave them behind." "Maybe we'll have time to retrieve them later," Fred mused. "Perhaps. Let us go now," answered Belboz. The Trio....
