Folcrada's life would demand a blood price, but Vodirk was not to be swayed. And so, by the end of the day, there was much blood on his hands, and the clan had become terrified of him, but as he watched, now in the privacy of his hut, Folcrada's stiff form suddenly drew a shuddering gasp.
He kissed her, and pulled her up into his chest. "My bride," he said fervidly, "how do you feel?"
Folcrada looked into his eyes

and found that, though she responded instinctively to him and cared for him deeply upon seeing him, she did not know him - nor did she recall a single thing about herself.
