Disappointed that their investment in Red had not paid off one bit, the dwarves angrily threw both fruits outside, where they rotted. But a few months later, once their seeds took to the soil, saplings appeared, very close together. It wasn't long before the little trees inosculated into each other, forming a delightful and lovely twisting pattern where they began to grow together. Fifteen years later, the trees, or tree, one might say, were a little over twenty feet tall, and beginning to grow fruits of their own. That was the strange thing about these fruits: they could only be created as the result of a successful union, like with many things in nature, but they took a few extra steps, and didn't occur with much frequency as a result. All this could have been quite the discovery, but it went over the dwarves' heads entirely. They at least knew not to eat the fruit, but they kept the tree(s) in mind in case they encountered anyone they really didn't like. And along came a couple one day, asking for directions. Their names were Tius and Fenna, and the dwarves offered them a bed for the night. The following morning, they gave Tius one of the fruits with his breakfast, and he ballooned out immediately. They manically claimed not to have ever observed this reaction before, and offered him a place to stay while they wrote letters to contacts asking about a cure while fenna stayed to cook and clean for them. Those dastardly dwarves! Fenna agreed, but as the months crawled by, she began to demand why none of them tried traveling to find the answer. She had half a mind to leave to try it herself, but she was beginning not to trust the dwarves, certainly not enough to leave Tius with them, but she couldn't move him. She was trapped! Until one day, she got a wild yarn, and cleverly hid the fruit in the dwarves' dinner.
