So far Angelina had tried drinking the water emerging from the cherub, which had made her younger, and from the lion, which had turned her into a lion-woman hybrid. She wasn't about to risk drinking from the dolphin, as it seemed likely that it would turn her into a mermaid at best and maybe into something even worse. But if drinking from the lion had given her leonine features, shouldn't drinking from the maiden logically make her fully human again? Drinking from the cherub again might do the same, but she didn't want to risk becoming even younger. It's a pity that there isn't a male statue to drink from, she thought, but I suppose that would be too much to expect.

Having made up her mind, she drank a mouthful of water from the statue of the maiden.

  1. As she had hoped, it undid the lion semi-transformation.
