Fred's clothing had not fared as well as her body seemed to have done, and most of her back had been left bare. Astra gazed in astonishment at what was revealed when she turned her back towards her. The girl appeared to have suffered no injuries at all; there was no sign of even a scratch or a bruise.
"You seem totally unharmed, Hannah," she said. "If your back hurts, then I suppose that may indicate a little tissue damage under the skin, but there's nothing outwardly visible. I'm amazed that it wasn't far, far worse. If this is as a result of your curse, and I can't think of any other explanation, then that curse appears to have come with one major - if perhaps unintended - benefit. It seems that I may not need to worry so much about your safety in future." What Astra had said was a little involved for Fred to wholly follow it, but she got the general idea. "Good," she said. "I think our healer should probably still examine you, just in case there's something serious that doesn't show." "All right, Astra." When the healer examined Fred, running her hands over her and gently pressing the skin in a search for anything untoward, she too could find no sign of any injury. After the evening meal, the camp settled down for the night. Naturally one of the party remained on watch, handing over to someone else halfway through the night so that no one would go wholly without sleep.
