The more time passed, the more Vulbi found herself believing in what she had initially considered silly superstitions. The goblins weren't particularly religious, but they had a great deal of odd little rituals they engaged in every day, like tapping their weapons four times against the ground after a successful kill, drawing circles in the dirt when they became nervous, tossing bones over their left shoulders, not speaking within the first minute of waking... Some they knew the meanings of, and some they really didn't. But Vulbi learned and practiced them all, and the more she did, the more she came to believe that they really did help them to survive, by making them more like Gorbukin. One evening, she was with Dreeg just outside the nursery as he wobblily practiced walking, and she idly drew a circle in the dirt, for good luck. And she glanced down at the circle, and she saw that it had become a shining, winking eye. All around her seemed to go dim, as the eye rose up out of the ground, growing in size as it took to the air, but nobody else seemed to notice, including Dreeg. She was shocked to stillness anyway, but she found she couldn't move a muscle, her wide eyes trained on what was clearly an aspect of Gorbukin. The Great Eye blinked, and a ray of light shone forth from it.
