The dwarves explained that as long as she wore the necklace, or some other article made from at least as much iron, her feelings were her own. They also explained that it was a certainty that Llewellyn come back with his forest forces to wage war on them to claim her and take revenge for this deception. Red was really quite tired of their songs and of being in this cottage, but she was struck by how much they had done for her, even if they expected something in return: because of them, her mind and feelings were still completely under her own control, and her body was no longer a prison. In any case, she'd have to clean herself up and make herself somewhat presentable before she could decide how to proceed. The dwarves led her to their small washroom and took her gigantic dress off her hands while she cleaned herself up for the first time in several days. Her skin felt somewhat loose, and it was still bright scarlet, and her hair maroon and eyes vermillion, but considering she'd resigned herself to the damage to her body being totally irreparable, this seemed a paltry set of lasting effects. She waited for a few hours while they lashed together an outfit for her, a knee-length dress made from the cleaned fabric of her old one and some dwarvish leather. The iron necklace was already growing heavy, and its chain was sure to rub her neck raw. She had to find a way to ask someone if there were some alternative... As she lay in bed that night, her necklace turned round and tucked under her pillow, she pondered deeply how to proceed. The knightly code indicated that she should repay these dwarves somehow. She was able-minded and able-bodied because of them, and, though it was certainly by no fault of her own, they were about to go to war because of her.
