The girl stumbled, weeping, out of Regon's home. She felt with dread that what he'd told her was entirely true, but she had to test it, so she told a passerby, a man she'd exchanged some words with in the past and found to be kind, "Please, sir... I desperately need help." He scoffed. "Yeah, okay, lassie." And kept walking. She tried a variety of stories on a variety of people, and was always met with a similar answer. She was full-on sobbing by the end, and stopped to hide just inside an alleyway and attempt to compose herself, but a couple she'd entreated for help minutes before approached her with disdain and told her to "Stop making such noise, you ridiculous thing." Even after all this confirmation, she had to try with Henry - maybe later, when he was looking for her, he would remember that teenaged girl's story, no matter how ridiculous it had seemed in the moment, and come looking for her then? Sure enough, trying to tell her husband that she was really Hannah and had been cursed by Regon led him to sternly order her off "his" property. She became very hungry hours later, and tried begging, but nobody seemed to believe she was really hungry. One even accused her of faking her pregnancy by stuffing her shirt.
