Fred realized in complete terror that she could not move a muscle. With a few words under his breath Regon had confirmed what she'd suspected all along - that hidden within him was tremendous power that he had great control over and had no desire to show. The fact that he'd shown it now was sure to be a very bad omen indeed...
He came around to stand in front of her and regard her for a long moment, before sighing and shaking his head. "Honestly. So disappointing. Nearly anyone short of a stuck-up knight would understand that this is the better option for the kingdom. Most people would rejoice that such a waste of breath was about to be put to good use for once in his worthless life. But you..." He considered her for a long moment. The man on the floor had stopped moving, holding quite still, but Fred wasn't in much of a state to notice that. At last Regon said,
-
"Congratulations, you get what you wanted. I won't test it on him. Instead, I'll kill him, and test it on you... and the baby."
-
"No one must know what you do. But a body would be quite conspicuous indeed, so..." He began to chant, and as he did, Fred transformed.
-
"I did warn you to think of the baby. I'm afraid revenge is quite easy here. In three days, you will miscarry. Though you will know this, neither before or after shall you be able to tell anyone anything about what has happened between us today."
-
"I suppose now's a decent time to reveal that I'm perfectly aware that your pregnancy has been halted, and that there's a powerful illusion surrounding you to keep others from noticing. Who are you, really?"
-
"Your ludicrous commitment to the right does fascinate me, scientifically. How deluded are you? How do you justify it? Please explain." He waved his fingers delicately, and Fred realized her lips could move.
-
"You've passed the test. I really didn't think you would stick to your guns, but I stand proven wrong."
