Poor Cinnamon was horrified as she felt her nose stretch down, down, down, to the point where she felt it brush against something, and she realized presently that it was the floor. She felt it up and down with her free hand, the other one still holding Nina, and found it thick and wrinkly. Her mouth felt mangled, its shape far different from what she was used to, with two slender tusks protruding from it and her lower lip flapping down low, brushing against her chest. She looked down at little Nina, and saw what must be a miniature version of what she had now manifested: her adorable little face now sported the tiny trunk of an elephant! Nina was tugging on her own trunk and letting out little trumpets of distress, and as she did, Cinnamon suddenly felt something brushing against her shoulders, which she reached up to feel as well, and found that her ears had grown to an enormous size. She quickly pulled off Nina's hat, and her own ears sprang outward - no wonder she had sounded so distressed, that must have been uncomfortable! She looked at the hag, afraid to make a sound, and in any case extremely unaccustomed to doing so. The hag grinned, and said, "Your muteness is cured, my dear. No need to thank me. Feel free to explore the swamp; I do not obligate you to remain here in this cottage, but you'll find it quite impossible to leave my territory, per our arrangement." Reluctantly, still constantly feeling her new body parts, Cinnamon took her child and left the cottage. She was dazed over what had happened, and apprehensive over what may still be coming, but glad, at least, that she still had Nina, and, though they had undergone something truly strange and life-altering, they could still be together as mother and daughter. But she ached at the thought that she'd left her husband and friends behind, and who knew what strange and wicked things lay in this swamp? Her first job, which was by no means easy nor quick, was to find a new way to feed herself and her daughter. She found that her trunk was quite prehensile, very handy for collecting food from the tree branches above her, but it was also quite cumbersome, and she tripped over it frequently. She was still very hesitant to actually try to use it to produce sound, even though Nina had been doing that more or less constantly. Fortunately, the hag's territory was not entirely swampland; Cinnamon wandered into a grassy, forested area after only a few minutes, though it didn't really feel any less evil.
