Surely the dragon had intended to kill her, and indeed it might have, but Gerkka landed just right that she woke up hours later horribly bruised but alive. She was dazed for a bit, slowly recalling what had happened, and she got up at once, taking in her new surroundings. It was late autumn, with most trees already bare, and indeed she saw nothing but trees all around. She looked up in bewilderment at the sky, but could recall nothing of navigation from her previous life. All she could tell was that it was the gray of dusk. She lumbered through the trees aimlessly, looking for either a place to sleep or something to eat. Eventually she had to choose sleep when she found a decently sheltered space, and she rested her aching bones until late the following morning. Mostly, she thought this must be a bad thing. Everything she'd ever known was in Allaria - and so was the only one who could turn her back into a human. But at the same time, she was... free? And that was good, sort of, wasn't it? She was a bit confused, and quite sad. She'd never had to hunt as an ogress, but it was becoming obvious that she'd have to figure it out quickly. And she did. Hours later, she happened upon a fox, and she'd outpaced it with her long strides and broken its back against a tree before she could think. She tore into it, and it was stringy but she ate it ravenously all the same, picking her teeth with its bones afterwards. She had no idea how to get back home, and by the end of her first full day she had decided...
