It certainly wasn't the party's intent, but sometimes the strange things they encountered just... stuck to their shoes a bit. In this case, the creature was a hag, a hideous crone with worms in her hair and magic at her fingertips. It happened that Cinnamon woke up in the dead of night to Nina crying, and dragged herself to go tend to her. But she found a figure standing over Nina's makeshift crib, and as she rushed forward, the hag put up one hand as the other reached down to trace the fuzz of hair on Nina's head. "Shh," she said, lifting a finger to her mouth as she gave Cinnamon a toothless smile. "Don't wake her. I wouldn't dream of it." She waved a hand, and Nina abruptly stopped crying. Cinnamon stood frozen. She couldn't call out to Borovius, but she couldn't leave Nina to go get him - or anyone else. "You're a funny thing, aren't you?" purred the hag. "A terrible knot of all sorts of magic. I could help you, you know." Cinnamon's heart skipped a beat. She wanted to ask what the hag knew, but of course she couldn't. If she was talking about her form, she really didn't know if she wanted to go back to her old one - that life was now twelve years behind her, but what's more, she'd be leaving a family behind. But if it was either of the other two things... But she couldn't trust this monster! This witch - she was the kind of thing Fred would have killed, not bargained with. Bargained... oh no... what could she want from -? "Oh dear," said the hag, tutting, "you're all stressed. There's no need to fear me, dearie. Calm down." And she began to sing a soft lullaby, in a surprisingly smooth, sweet voice. Cinnamon's frayed mind turned to a pile of pudding at once. She was well used to forgetting what she was thinking, so that made it all the more easy for the hag to lull her into a complacent, content state. She approached slowly, staring at the hag now instead of Nina, and sat slowly in the rocking chair by the crib. "Good," grinned the hag, "Now, here is what I propose. I'll fix you - precisely what that will look like is something I'll keep a surprise for right now. I'm rather afraid if you don't accept the deal, my feelings will be quite hurt, and that will open a door for quite a bit of pain for you. But if you do accept, all I ask in exchange is
