Ambrose shook his head, ruffled by the disruption, but quickly returned to sleep. His drowsy and subsequently unconscious state affected Fred's mind as well, and soon enough, the hapless hero knew no more. Some time later, Ambrose climbed back to consciousness and went off to find something to eat. As Fred's mind shook off the cobwebs of sleep, he quickly became panicked! There were no physical symptoms of this panic, however; he was trapped, a prisoner in Ambrose's mind, completely unable to control the cat's body. His situation suddenly seemed even more hopeless than it had been before. Several days passed. Peltar fed Ambrose kibble every few days, but Ambrose mostly fed himself by hunting sparrows and squirrels in the gardens. Fred felt the thrill of the hunt, and the taste of the stringy, meager amount of meat being torn to shreds by Ambrose's teeth and then sliding down his throat. He'd shiver, if he could. The cat slept often throughout the day, and Fred slept during these times too. It was a series of totally unproductive days. If nothing else, Fred at least wanted to listen in on the conversations between Jasper and Peltar on how they were attempting to retrieve "Lilith," but Ambrose, of course, didn't know or care to be nearby for these conversations.
