Nancy Pickering

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 118328

Fred slipped into the small uniform, and in a flash was a lovely schoolgirl the age of thirteen named Nancy Pickering. Her hair was a bit greasy, her teeth bound by braces, and her face spotted with acne, but she was cute all the same--about five foot even, with dirty blonde hair and big brown eyes.

She reeled, her backpack almost upsetting her balance. She was standing in front of her new school, an all-girls school in the new town to which she had just moved with her parents. However... she also remembered another life. Being Sir Fred of Allaria. Questing. Following his king's wishes as an honorable knight and protector of the realm.

But she also knew that she was Nancy, and Nancy's life was obviously real, staring her in the face.

At a glance, this whole other life in her head was madness. Was it not?

But if that was the case... why did she remember everything about Sir Frederigo D'Honaire?

She pushed her round glasses up her nose and adjusted her twin braids, determined to make a good impression on her fellow classmates. She was a shy girl, but intelligent; still, that hadn't helped in making her any friends at her last school. Maybe things would be different here.

Unfortunately, she spent the first day of classes terribly distracted, daydreaming about the life of Sir Fred, and did not even make a good first impression on her teachers. She kept staring down at her body, feeling horribly uncomfortable and unfamiliar in her own skin. She knew Lord Fred had known how to swordfight, but did Nancy? She had no confidence at all that, given a longsword, she would have any idea how to handle it.

She came home at the end of the day to her parents, Bob and Sarah Pickering. They were very reticent people, and Nancy had never felt she knew them very well. Really, she had spent most of her life quite alone. It made her sad to think about. What if... What if dreaming up Sir Fred was a coping mechanism? What if she was cracking under her solitude and inventing a life where she saved people and made a difference?

  1. That night, her parents told her something very surprising.
  2. On her second day of school, one of her classmates introduced herself to Nancy as Felicia. She was very kind and welcoming, and invited her to have lunch.
  3. Over the following few days, she realized she was beginning to forget what she knew of Sir Fred. Frantically, she bought several journals and spent every free moment she had in the next week putting the details of his life to paper.
  4. After a bit of a rocky start, she committed herself to her studies, as she was expected to, and began finding success academically, but still none socially.
