The New Wenda

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 118280

Cinnamon had now been a voiceless young woman who had no contact with anyone except Wenda for a decade and a half. She was thirty-five years old, and though she had aged like fine wine, aged she had, losing the youthful look of her face and the wide doe-eyed innocence she had once had. It had been especially odd for her, as when Fred had been snapped to a 20-year-old brain, she had not found it fully developed. But over the course of about five years, she grew tremendously in maturity.

Really, Fred was more gone than he might have been if he'd been transformed into somebody fully matured. Cinnamon had now gone through an important part of her formation as a person, and then gone ten years further.

And Wenda had been with her through it all.

Cinnamon wept bitterly for many days. She hardly had the strength to drag the elderly woman out of the hut, and digging a grave would be absolutely impossible, so, after hours of effort with frequent breaks, she at last gathered some firewood around the still body of her caretaker, and set it alight.

She continued to cry, as she cleaned, as she cooked, as she gardened, as she lay in bed. She felt utterly alone, and though she had come to love this life, it was no longer the same without Wenda. But where else could she go? Who else could she be? She had become Cinnamon, and she felt there was now no going back.

Perhaps she had to be the new Wenda. A kind woman alone in a hut, available to offer selfless help to desperate strangers.

It took years for her to get used to being alone. When she received visitors, she answered the door like Wenda once had, though without a voice, any help she could offer was limited. She could offer food and a place to spend the night, but directions, even by pointing at a map, were impossible; she had no familiarity with the surrounding area.

But whether or not she was aware of it, the world changed around her.

Naturally, she only received this news when a visitor came knocking one fateful day.

  1. She was forty years old when a red-haired queen of about fifty-five arrived, claiming to be Astra of Aqualaria.
  2. She was fifty years old when a young knight came by, saying he was looking for recruits to lead the biggest assault of all time against the tyrannical dragon.
  3. She was sixty years old when a grizzled fighter arrested her on dubious grounds, claiming suspicion that she was a witch allied with the dragon.
  4. She was seventy years old when a young orphaned girl came by, covered in old burn scars and gasping, "I didn't think there was anyone left!"
  5. She was eighty years old when Belboz showed up at her door, saying grimly, "I can't believe I finally found you. Things have changed, and I need your help."
