Another contender steps into the ring

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 118256

Nate burst in mere minutes before the vows, drawing the attention of everyone in the huge room. He was dirty, but his sword was strapped to his belt, and he strode forward and cried, "Stop!"

Jasper, outrage, exclaimed, "What is the meaning of this?"

Nate bowed, and said, "Begging your pardon, your royal highness. I am Sir Nathaneos Dellenios, and even if what I hear is true—that this woman is Princess Lilith, your once-betrothed—it is years since she has seen you, and much has changed in that time. Mainly, she is no longer in love with you, but with me!"

A gasp rippled through the crowd at this development.

"Well I never!" Jasper blustered, but he turned to Lilith, and asked, a mixture of anger and desperation in his eyes, "Is this true, my only?"

It wasn't, but she had to nod, her eyes wide. What else could she do? If she said no, the wedding would proceed for sure, and she would be doomed to this marriage. At least she could hope that this was a ploy of Nate's to get her out of it, and even if it wasn't, he was a more reasonable man than Jasper.

Jasper looked crushed, but at length he declared,

  1. "This is unacceptable. I am the crown prince, and I get what I want. Guards, arrest this man."
  2. "Sir Nathaneos, I challenge you to a duel to the death. The winner receives the Princess Lilith's hand in marriage."
  3. "Very well, then. Though my heart is broken, I could not force my love to do anything she didn't want. I shall instead oversee the preparations for her wedding to you."
