Fred—or... or perhaps Bella really was a more appropriate name for her... Bella suddenly saw in Phelyp something she had never seen before in anyone. He was intelligent, hardworking, and realistic, and for these last few days, he had applied these talents solely to his attempts to help Bella, an absolute stranger. That simply had to imply kindness without end. Sure, he was an old man, probably pushing seventy, and he was far from the most socially adept, but these things hardly seemed important. It was so odd, and it came out of nowhere, but suddenly, Bella realized she didn't want to leave. Not ever. Eating the same four vegetables for the rest of her life seemed a small price to pay. Phelyp didn't react at first to the way she gazed at him, but Nate noticed, and placed his hand on hers, asking in concern, "Bella, are you all right?" She pulled her hand away at once, and nodded. How on earth could she show her feelings? When the meal was over, she tugged gently on Phelyp's hand with a smile, indicating that he should come outside with her. He said, "Eh? Oh, very well then" and did so. She felt Nate's confused gaze on them, but she ignored it, and once she and Phelyp were outside of the hut, standing on the quiet street, she leaned forward and pressed her lips to his. He kissed back readily, and held her face between his hands when she finally pulled away. "You are so perfect," he said in awe, looking at her, and she blushed. "I'm glad you've finally seen the way I feel about you, and better yet, you return those feelings! I will continue to work on a way to restore your voice. Once I have... and you are able to articulate your willingness... well, may I presume I may begin some preliminary planning for our future together?" She nodded vigorously, on the brink of tears, and, in the absence of any way to express what she was feeling, she kissed him again, desperately. He spoke, but did not stop her, so his words were muffled: "You'll have to pretend little has changed; the suddenness of all this might startle that knight. But once you have your voice, he will leave, and we can drop all pretenses." Bella nodded, and hugged him tight. Phelyp's love potion had worked perfectly, and soon enough, he would have a beautiful wife. He continued to work fervently on the remedy, while Bella tried not to stare lovingly at him, and Nate watched her in suspicion. About a week later, Phelyp at last presented Bella with a vial of green liquid, saying, rather anxiously, "This ought to work." Bella, trusting him completely, downed it at once, while the two men looked on nervously.
