Phelyp Tries Some Things

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 118240

Bella--Fred! blinked, suddenly becoming rather emotional. True, this knight's position was exactly where she'd rather be, making noble sacrifices and helping people who could not give anything in return, but it meant so much to be on the receiving end after three years of helplessness that she was nearly moved to tears. Lacking any other way to express her gratitude, she threw her arms around Nate and hugged him tight.

He hugged her back, and said, "Bella, it is my honor." And at this she did begin to weep.

Phelyp waved a dismissive hand. "All right, lovebirds, that's enough. We have work to do."

And so began the work. Phelyp spent the rest of the day mixing herbs, and administered one or two to Fred to see her reactions to them. Nate mostly watched closely, holding her hand. This was not entirely welcome, but she allowed it all the same, at least much of the time. Occasionally Phelyp had Nate help him with some brewing, and once asked him to go into the market to fetch a spice Phelyp didn't have handy. During the time Bella spent alone with him in his little hut packed with overgrown plants, she found herself terribly uncomfortable.

Phelyp fed them vegetable stew for dinner, all the while making it clear that it would go on the bill. That night, Fred and Nate slept on opposite ends of his living room/kitchen, wrapped in blankets and furs. The following morning, Nate woke Bella early, whispering, "Bella, my dear, you would honor me by accompanying me on a walk. The sun is about to rise and it will be glorious."

Fred, of course, knew what accepting would look like, and that she could not continue to lead this poor young man on. So she merely gave a conciliatory smile, shook her head, and wrapped herself up in her blankets. She heard him, after a pause, say sadly, "Oh. Well... very well. You're right, you need your rest."

Throughout the second day, Phelyp continued his tinkering and mixing, not terribly talkative, but every time he referred to the two of them he called them "you lovebirds." Fred became increasingly uncomfortable at this phrase, and, she noticed, so did Nate, who glanced over at her every time it was uttered, always to be met with being steadfastly ignored.

Nate invited her on another walk that evening after dinner, and this time she accepted, because she had been beginning to go stir crazy being cooped up in that small hut for almost two days. The walk, thankfully, was quite innocuous, and they returned about an hour later feeling much refreshed.

Two more days passed, with Phelyp beginning to properly attempt remedies late morning on the fourth. Fred felt tickles in her throat at a few, but was still unable to produce a sound by that evening, when...

  1. Phelyp cooked a potion into Bella's dinner without asking or alerting her.
  2. Nate finally took Bella outside and dared to ask her if she saw a future with him.
  3. Phelyp said he thought he knew a solution, there was just one ingredient left to find.
  4. Phelyp said he was beginning to think there was no solution at all.
