Maggie decided that she couldn't afford to delay. The guards would probably be far more vigilant and suspicious of people that they didn't know once they learnt of the dragon's death. There was also the risk that, once the dragon's top aides who had access to the treasure complex discovered that he was dead, one or more of them might try to take advantage of the situation to loot the most valuable items from his hoard. It was true that they might be unaware that the pink jar fell into that category and would ignore it, but it would be better not to take the chance.

So she headed for the nearest post guarding the treasure complex. Perhaps she could convince the guards that the dragon had sent her to fetch the pink jar for him, as he needed its contents for some purpose that he had not told her? She could tell them that the dragon had cast a spell on her which would enable her to get past the ward. Then she would just have to hope that the ward had failed with his death, which seemed quite probable.

  1. Maggie succeeds in enteruing the treasure complex. Now she needs to find the pink jar amid a huge amount of stuff.
  2. Maggie manages to talk her way past the guards, but discovers that the ward is still operative.
  3. Maggie fails to get past the guards.
  4. En route to the guard post, she encounters someone who wants to know who she is and what she is doing.
