And so, with much ado, Fred was given fitting clothes and a bit of time to rest, and shooed out of the castle. He left in something of a daze, almost unable to believe his luck. Sure, he was voiceless, unrecognizable, and no longer the strapping knight he once had been, but he was free, male, and had hope of finding someone who could help with resolving the other issues! Things were looking up tremendously.

He had only the clothes on his back, and knew he would need help to get back into questing shape, but to get help, one usually needed money, and a lot of it in this case. So, though it was far from ideal, he resolved to

  1. accept a few easy adventuring contracts to try to rack up some quick coin.
  2. start the long journey back home to ask for help there.
  3. travel a little ways before finding a job and settling down until he could save enough to set out again.
