Fred is Unmoved

Then he realised that the coins that he had been holding were missing. Had Belboz just wanted to get his hands on them? If so, then why? To Fred they had seemed just like ordinary coins, albeit of a type that he had not seen before.

There was no sign of either Belboz or Exotica. Was she complicit in what Belboz had done? If she had allied herself with him to that extent, that was very worrying. And why had she laughed at Fred?

1. Then he heard a groan from not far away. A quick search revealed Exotica, who was just coming round, apparently having been drugged just as Fred had been.
2. There was some loose sand on the floor of the tunnel, and he was able to follow Belboz and Exotica by the footprints that they had left.
3. He decided he had no chance of finding Belboz or Exotica, and returned his thoughts to his quest.
4. He discovered that Belboz had left a note for him: "I took the coins as part payment for the flamebane mail. I let you off lightly."
