Stacy obligingly went with the man to the Socorro Police Office for
questioning. After all, it seemed like the only reasonable thing to do.
The (rather suspicious-sounding) questions about where she had been last
night and when she had talked with Betty were easy enough to answer, but
the questions about what she was doing here in Socorro were much more
difficult (or at least, much more difficult to answer without sounding like
a nut). And many of the questions about herself (home address? date of
birth?) were quite impossible. The cops seemed to be quite annoyed, and
Stacy rather got the impression they thought she was being deliberately
obstructive, or even making fun of them.
