At once Belboz decided on a course of action: he would transform the real cat into something inanimate to keep it out of the way, and disguise himself as an identical cat so he could waltz about the house without drawing attention or suspicion. It was not a perfect plan, as if he was caught he would be very vulnerable, but it seemed unlikely that it would go sideways.
He lay in wait for an opportunity to catch the cat outside alone, which took a few hours. Once he saw his chance, he pounced.
